Young musicians from West of England Music and Arts, the National Children's Orchestra, and Future Talent came together for a folk music workshop in Bristol, led by talented multi instrumentalist Tamsin Elliott. For many musicians, this was their first time playing folk music, with some opting to try out the accordion which leader Tamsin had brought along! Under Tamsin's guidance, the group experimented with the folk style, learning tunes by ear and trying out new rhythms. The workshop also introduced an element of folk dance, with Tamsin teaching the group a traditional 'snake dance'.
At the end of the session, parents and audience members were invited to join in a snake dance for an interactive finale whilst the group accompanied with their newly learned folk music.
Workshops like these are invaluable in broadening a young musicians scope of different genres. Thank you to Tamsin for getting everyone involved in a brilliant experience.
