The Royal Academy of Music resonated with the melodies of young Future Talent musicians, during a masterclass with ambassador and cellist, Sheku Kanneh-Mason.
The day kicked off with ensemble performances, featuring pieces written by three young composers of Future Talent. These compositions are set to be immortalised on the upcoming Future Talent 20thanniversary album.
Sheku offered valuable insight to the aspiring composers; his guidance undoubtedly left a mark on what will become the final draft of each piece due to be recorded for the album. Check out this short clip for a sneak preview of one of the ensemble pieces, written by Carlotta!
The afternoon session unfolded with solo performances by exceptional young cellists Keria, Luke and Danny. Each cellist brought a piece to perform with them, and the recital hall really rang with the versatility and richness of the cello. We heard performances of Kol Nidrei, Shostakovich Cello Sonata 1st Movement, and Beethoven’s variations on the Magic Flute. Sheku provided personalised guidance to the soloists, giving thoughtful comments and suggestions to add an extra layer of refinement to the already impressive performances.
The masterclass was a testament to the power of mentorship, with each musician gleaming with the excitement of participating. The masterclass not only celebrated the talent of the young musicians but also served as a reminder of the importance of nurturing and supporting future generations of musicians.
