Avram

Composer of Shkoyach

At just 15, Avram is an accomplished musician and composer. Winner of BBC Young Composer 2023, and a Guildhall Young Artists laureate, he made his Proms composer debut in 2024 with a commissioned work played by the BBC Concert Orchestra. Primarily a cellist, Avram has performed solo and in chamber concerts at numerous venues ranging from Buckingham Palace to Hallé St. Peter’s, and has participated in masterclasses with celebrated artists including Sheku Kanneh-Mason and Alban Gerhardt. Reflecting on his composition “Shkoyach,” Avram describes it as a celebration of life with both its joy and pain, drawing from his personal experience where music has provided solace during darker times. He explains: “The title, Shkoyach, is a Yiddish word meaning a mix of ‘thank you’ and ‘well done.’ It is a message of gratitude to Future Talent on their 20th anniversary. I wanted to capture both the exhilaration of being a musician and the hardships music has helped me navigate.” His piece features influences from klezmer, classical, jazz, and Asian musical traditions, blended in a dynamic, multi-emotional work. Though he typically composes without specific imagery in mind, Avram hints at the vibrancy of London’s multiculturalism, evoking images such as tango dancers and Chagall-like dreamscapes.
